Why Pretend Play is important in early Childhood

Kids are imaginative and creative since a very young age. They also like to mimic adults and want to do everything they are doing with their own twist on it. Many times they say or do things that make us wonder where did they learn that. So as parents, it’s our responsibility to hone their imagination and interest, and steer them in the right direction.

Imaginative play has so many benefits as it reinforces kids’ cognitive skills and helps them discover their passions. It empowers the kids with an enduring sense of self. Pretend play supports social and emotional development while improving language and communication skills. It also helps enhance physical development including fine motor skills.

Through pretend play kids learn how to walk in someone else's shoes - often mum or dad, which means they become more reasonable when you tell them when you can or cannot do something they asked. They learn how to recognise and respond to others feelings when involved in group imaginary activities making them a team player.

While deciding on what to buy for your kid, pay attention to their interests. If they imitate you doing makeup, get them a play vanity.
